Reception
Class Teacher: Mrs Stephens
Support: Miss Roberts
Our Reception class is a fun place to learn! Children learn through a play based curriculum led by an experienced Teacher and an excellent Early Years Teaching Assistant.
We work towards achieving the Early Learning Goals and as every child develops at a different pace in the Prime and Specific areas of learning we tailor our curriculum to individual needs. We use a topic based approach and where possible involve the children in the planning and development of ideas. We provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment.
Getting to know each child is an essential part of our role in Early Years and we find the induction period crucial to this. We provide opportunities for children to visit us ahead of starting school and we make visits to children’s nurseries and homes. We spend a lot of time helping children to settle into school, to develop routines and to make new friends. We value working in partnership with families and hope to offer support and guidance as your child begins their exciting journey through school.
PE
PE takes place in PE lessons twice a week with many additional opportunities for physical development both indoors and outside throughout the week.
Homework
Homework is set weekly. Homework tasks are brief and reinforce our learning in Phonics or Maths.
Reading
It is essential that children read or are read to everyday at home and that reading is always a positive enjoyable experience. We love sharing stories in the classroom!
