TEACHING ASSISTANTS: Mrs Staples and Mrs Harding.

Saturn picture 800x598

Welcome to Class Saturn, we have 30 children in our class. The class is made up of nineteen Year 5 children and eleven Year 4s.

Interestingly, did you know? Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun and the second largest planet in the solar system. Saturn was the Roman name for Cronus, the lord of the Titans in Greek mythology. Saturn is the root of the English word "Saturday."

Mrs Staples helps us every weekday morning and Monday afternoons, Mrs Harding helps in our class on a Thursday afternoon.

Maths and Spelling homework will usually be given out on a Friday, to be completed by the following Friday. If your child is struggling with their homework, then we can provide extra support during assembly time to help them. We also encourage the learning of times tables outside of school, if you need any additional resources to help with this then please get in touch.

Children need to be reading as much as they can outside of the school day. Every time they read, it needs to be recorded in their reading record, which are checked on a weekly basis.

Our current topic is ‘Off with her head’ - Year 4 will be travelling back in time to the 1500s to meet the terrifying Tudors, a domineering dynasty that changed our history. The children will understand what life was like for rich and poor people in Tudor times and compare with life in Britain today. They will be learning about Tudor exploration including Sir Francis Drake and the feats of the Spanish Armada as well as other Tudor triumphs. Further still we will be looking at Henry VIII and the fates of his wives, as well as the dissolution of the monasteries.

In Science we will be investigating different states of matter as well as properties and their different materials. As well as looking at sound and the human ear.

PE is currently time-tabled for Monday and Tuesday, but please keep PE kits in school during the week as this scheduling sometimes needs to be changed at short notice.  For Health and Safety reasons, we are sorry but children will not be able to take part in PE lessons without full kit. If you could encourage your child to check their PE weekly, it is much easier for us to help them track lost items. Please ensure all uniform is named!
