Class teachers: Mrs Booton And Mrs Radburn
Teaching assistant: Miss Dee
We would like to offer you a warm welcome back to a new school year and look forward to working with you to support your child’s learning. The children are settling back into school life well.
We have put the following information together which we hope helps with the smooth running of the class this year.
Mrs Radburn is new to Rushwick and will be with the class on Mondays and Tuesdays. Mrs Booton will be with Year 5 on Thursdays and Fridays. We will alternate on Wednesday, with Mrs Hulls covering the class on Wednesday afternoons each week. Miss Dee will be Class 5’s Teaching Assistant each morning. Any issues will, of course, be passed between staff in Class 5.
Spelling As part of our English lessons your child will be given a list of spellings which they will be expected to learn. These are usually words we have worked on during the week and so this is a consolidation exercise. Sometimes they will be given a written task to reinforce skills, including punctuation, handwriting and grammar.
Spelling homework will be given out on a Friday to be completed by the following Friday.
Maths homework will have a delayed start whilst a new online platform is set up to delivery weekly multiplication practise.
Maths homework will be set on Friday to be handed in the following Tuesday.
Rainbow Reading We are very keen to improve reading across the school this year, and so we are starting a new ‘golden ticket’ initiative to encourage more home reading and promote a love of books. If children read 4 times each week, they will be given a ticket, which then enters them into a raffle where they can win a book token at the end of each half term. In Year 5 children do not need to be listened to by an adult every time they read, but an adult does need to initial their home reading session for it ‘to count’. Reading Records will be checked on Mondays in order to review your child’s reading habits and progress.
Other subjects To consolidate work in class, additional research-based homework may be given occasionally.
As part of our PE curriculum, our timetabled PE lessons are Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Your child should come to school in their PE kit on these days. They may wear tracksuit bottoms if it is cold.
- Please find our Curriculum Summary for this term attached to this letter.
- We continue to maintain a Healthy Snack policy and request that morning snacks fulfil this.
Please do not hesitate to contact us anytime should you have any further questions or worries, or if your child is experiencing any problems with work either at school or at home. You can do this through Teams, or by phoning or emailing the school office and a message will be given to us.
Let’s hope the term continues in the same positive way it has started!
